About The Rector


The Rev. Phillip Shearin is serving as Priest-in-Charge for the Peninsula Ministry Partnership in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. The Peninsula Ministry Partnership is a new collaboration comprising of St. Augustine’s and St. George’s Episcopal Churches in Newport News, Virginia.

Rev. Shearin studied history at Hampton University and attended Seminary at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. He completed a Chaplain Residency Program at Duke University Hospital and is a certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant (HEC-C), Phillip is currently in the Masters of Bioethics program at the University of Pennsylvania. He also works as a PRN Chaplain for Bon Secour Mercy Health and previously worked as hospice chaplain with Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home.

Phillip is an alumnus of the Episcopal Service Corps and was in St. Hilda’s House based at Christ Church New Haven, Connecticut, and also a former assistant director of the Lawrence House Service Corps program based at All Saints’ Episcopal church in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
